"Flavors of Oakland" Book Talk and Tasting

Anya Ku and Elazar Sontag will speak about creating their book Flavors of Oakland: A Cookbook in 20 StoriesWe'll also have a sampling of a few of the recipes.

Anya Ku, 21, has lived in Oakland almost all of her life; she is a proud product of the Oakland public school system and the Peralta Community College system. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 2017, and will be attending Berkeley Law in the fall to study public interest law. Anya has been practicing photography professionally for over four years, and has established her own photography business, Kutography

Elazar Sontag Elazar, 19, is a writer, cook, and student who has trained in several renowned Oakland restaurants. He is passionate about food justice, and he previously compiled a book on sustainable farming in partnership with The Local Butcher Shop in Berkeley. He uses food as a catalyst for conversation in his freelance writing work. He is currently studying at Bard College in New York.
