The Oakland Public Library owns around 170 descriptive videos and DVDs and adds to the collection each year. These are for people who are blind or who have low vision. A narrative description of the action has been inserted into the original soundtrack and picture.

Most of them are kept at the Main Library in front of the checkout desk. Unlike other library videos, these go out for three weeks and can be reserved and sent to any branch. Their call numbers say DESCRIPT VIDEO.

Oakland Public Library branches also own some. These cannot be placed on hold. They include adult and juvenile titles. More videos and DVDs are being produced now which provide audio description.

All descriptive videos and DVDs can be found in the library’s online catalog by searching the subject Video recordings for people with visual disabilities.
