You can access Enki from any internet connected computer using your library card number and PIN. If you do not know your PIN, you can reset it by visiting any Oakland Public Library location or by calling (510) 238-3134.

What is Enki?
The Enki Library is a shared, open-source eBook Network that allows California libraries to own and store eBooks for access by library patrons; to share access to more content than any individual library can purchase on its own; to add features and functionality lacking in current third-party vendor models; and to share access to unique local digitized content with other libraries within the Network.
What type of ebook content is available through Enki?
Currently Enki Library offers access to PDF and EPUB ebook formats.
Content is currently focused on smaller and independent publishers including, but not limited to, Workman, National Highlights, Akashic, Dzanc, InfoBase, Permanent Press, Crossroad, Xist and Smashwords.
The collection includes nonfiction titles suitable for elementary to high school level reports in the area of science, countries, biographies, etc. A search for publishers such as Infobase Learning or Mason Crest Broomall will result in some of these nonfiction titles. A keyword search on "juvenile nonfiction" also works.
What about Kindle ebooks? Or audiobooks?
Kindle formats are not available.
Audiobook formats are not available at this time.
What is the checkout period for an eBook?
The Enki eBooks can be checked out for 14 days.
How do I download Enki ebooks to my iPad?
Software required: Bluefire Reader App for iPad and Safari web browser App.
How do I download a title to my eReader? (Sony, Nook)
You can download Enki eBooks to your computer and transfer them to your Sony Reader or Nook.
Nook: Install Adobe Digital Editions to transfer eBooks to your device. You will also need to authorize your computer and your Reader with an Adobe ID.

How do I download Enki ebooks to my Android tablet?
How many checkouts and/or holds are available per cardholder?
You can have up to 5 checkouts and 5 holds.
Can I return my items early?
Titles may be returned early from your eContent page.
What if my library card is expired?
If your library card is expired, you will not be able to access the enki site. Your card expires every year, and you can renew it by calling or visiting any of the Oakland Public Library locations.
