81st Avenue Branch Library to Open on Friday and Saturday Nights as Part of Mayor's Teen Initiative
Oakland, CA - The Joint City of Oakland/Oakland Unified School District Late Night Live! initiative expands to 81st Avenue East Oakland Community Library this weekend, Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 from 8 to 10pm.
Late Night Live! was conceived to provide a safe haven for kids and their families on Friday and Saturday nights. The program behan in Apirl after Mayor Quan and OUSD Superintendent Tony Smith announced the initiative. It is coming to the 81st Avenue East Oakland Community Branch thanks to cooperation from Library Director Carmen Martinez and Library staff. Located at 1021 81st Avenue, at Rudsdale, the branch library will be open from 8 to 10pm (in addition to its regular business hours) every Friday and Saturday night through August 27.
The Late Night Live Talent show, modeled on American Idol and sponsored by Youth Movement Records, will come to the 81st Avenue branch Library on Friday, July 22. The talent show will rotate throughout the city during the summer. The top winner of the talent show will front the headliner at Oakland's annual Art & Soul Music Festival August 20 and 21, and the top three winners will perform at the Back to School Rally on August 27.
