Become a Volunteer Story Reader

Books for Wider Horizons offers a unique volunteer opportunity: to read aloud to children at partnering preschool centers throughout Oakland. Volunteers present a 30-minute weekly storytime to children ages 3, 4, and 5 at partnering preschool sites around Oakland. Storytime introduces children to the pleasure of stories and creates excitement about books and reading.

The free training begins in October and there are seven mandatory sessions to attend. In these sessions, participants learn how to select and share wonderful books, and present engaging storytimes. All trainings take place at the Rockridge Branch Library, 5366 College Avenue. You must call to register.

Please note that the class size will be limited and the training will fill up quickly so please be sure you can fulfill all the commitments below before signing up.
