Civil Service Positions (Full-time and Permanent Part-Time)
Go to the City of Oakland Career Opportunities web page for opportunities to apply for regular full-time and permanent part-time positions at the Library and in other City departments. For these, you will need to follow the directions on the city web pages. Applications result in being ranked and placed on an active list of candidates, if you are qualified. This list remains active for a certain amount of time, depending on circumstances, and when openings occur during that period, you may be called to interview for that specific position. These include non-civil service, non-benefited, temporary part-time positions in a variety of job classifications. We accept application materials throughout the year for the following part-time positions: Teen Mentors, Library Aide, Library Aide (includes the PASS! Homework Assistance program), Library Assistant, Library Assistant (includes the PASS! Homework Assistance program), Literacy Assistant, Librarian I & Librarian II.

The City of Oakland applications and the Oakland Public Library Supplemental Questionnaires for temporary part-time, at-will, and non-benefited employment are available outside of the Financial & Administrative Services Office on the 2nd floor of the Main Library. The Main Library is located at 125 14th Street, Oakland, CA. 94612. Applications can be deposited in the slot on the wall or in the Financial & Administrative Services Office during the hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Temporary part-time application materials can also be obtained from any of our 15-neighborhood branches throughout the city of Oakland. Please be advised that you must complete both a City of Oakland Application and an Oakland Public Library Supplemental Questionnaire in order to be considered for temporary part-time employment with the Oakland Public Library.

There you can download a read-only Word document to print and fill out and return it by mail or in person as described above. An Interactive Copy of the Job Application is also available to download to your desktop. This form can be completed on-line, then printed and returned by mail or in person as described above.
