Writing Workshop for Teens:The Weird, The Strange, and The Beautiful
Join us for a free writing workshop with Patricia Killelea, a local, mixed-heritage Chicana poet. This workshop will focus on generating new writings through experimental exercises with an emphasis on paying attention to rhythm, breath and musicality in addition to standard concerns with poetic imagery and storytelling. This week will culminate in a poetry reading/performance on Friday, April 18 and writers will also select revised pieces from the workshops to be included in an online zine to share with others. Beginning and experienced writers between the ages of 13-17 are welcome and snacks will also be provided! This workshop is made possible through Chapter 510, a made-in-Oakland writing and literacy project.
