Meet Oakland Author and Urban Farmer Novella Carpenter

Novella Carpenter lives and farms in West Oakland and writes about it on her blog, Ghost Town Farm. She is the co-author of The Essential Urban Farmer and the author of the acclaimed memoir Farm City: The Education of an Urban Farmer, hailed as one of the best books of 2009 by The New York Times. Her newest memoir, Gone Feral : Tracking My Dad Through the Wild, describes Carpenter’s search for her long-estranged father as she contemplates her unconventional upbringing and considers starting her own family.
