Meet Award-Winning Oakland Author Nayomi Munaweera

Nayomi Munaweera was born in Sri Lanka, grew up in Nigeria, and emigrated to the United States as a young teenager. A resident of Oakland, she enjoys writing at the Montclair Branch Library

Her debut novel Island of a Thousand Mirrors tells the story of of two women whose lives unexpectedly intertwine amidst the chaos of Sri Lanka’s decades-long civil war. Island of a Thousand Mirrors won the 2013 Commonwealth Book Prize for the Asian Region and was longlisted for the 2012 Man Asian Literary Prize and the Dublin IMPAC Prize. It arrives in the US this fall to great fanfare, including recognition as a Good Housekeeping pick and as an Indie Next List pick for September.

Join the author for a reading and discussion of the book. She will also discuss her path to becoming a published author.
