LAKEVIEW BOOK CLUB: The Awakening by Kate Chopin

Image of the cover of The Awakening by Kate Chopin

This American classic novella, which was first published in 1899, was banned in Boston and is still powerful today. It focuses on the controversial choices of an affluent young wife in New Orleans. The writing makes the reader feel the humid heat of long summers and the arousal of  strong desire after the main character's years of a predictable and boring life. Perhaps the only choices in life truly are between Boredom and Suffering. Join us and share what you think of the young Edna's decisions. Do you think life has truly changed for women regarding love and destiny?
