Branch History
The 81st Avenue Library opened on January 29th 2011, after years of collaboration with the City of Oakland, the State of California, and Oakland Unified School District. Located on the site of ACORN Woodland and EnCompass Academy elementary schools, the 81st Avenue Library serves as a joint public/school library.
Collections

Computers
The 81st avenue Branch has 20 PCs for public use with Internet access and Microsoft Office 2007. Please call the branch for more information.

The 81st Avenue Branch Library is at 1021 81st Avenue (at Rudsdale) Oakland, California.
By Car:
- HWY 880 heading south from downtown Oakland / San Francisco: Take the 66th Ave./Zhone Way exit. Turn left at Zhone Way and continue onto 66th Ave. Turn right at San Leandro St., then turn left at 81st Ave. Turn left on Rudsdale St. The library is on the corner of 81st and Rudsdale.
- HWY 880 heading north from Hayward: Take the Hegenberger Rd./Coliseum exit. Turn left at Edes Ave, then turn right onto Hegenberger Rd. Take the San Leandro St. ramp. Turn right at San Leandro St., then turn left at 81st Ave. Turn left on Rudsdale St. The library is on the corner of 81st and Rudsdale.
- HWY 580 East (From Berkeley): Take exit for Edwards Ave. Turn right at Edwards Ave. Slight left at Hillmont Dr/Simson St. Slight left at 73rd Ave. Turn left at International Blvd. Turn right at 81st Ave. The library is on the corner of 81st and Rudsdale.
- HWY 580 West (From Hayward): Take the Golf Links Rd exit towards 98th Ave. Turn left onto 98th Ave. Turn right on Bancroft Ave. Turn left at 81st Ave. The library is on the corner of 81st and Rudsdale.
By Bus & By BART:
- By BART: Get off at Coliseum station. Weekdays only, you can take Bus 46 from Bart to Rudsdale and 81st. On Saturdays, walk from Bart on San Leandro Blvd. to 81st, then to Rudsdale. (10-15 minute walk)
- By AC TRANSIT: Take the number 1 bus which travels along International Blvd daily. Get off at 82nd Ave and walk north to 81st Ave, then west (2 blocks) to Rudsdale.
