LOUDER THAN WORDS: an exhibit of rare photographs documenting the efforts of the Black Panther Party to feed, educate, clothe and provide health care to East Bay flatland residents during the tumultuous 1960s and 1970s. The photographs, by Stephen Shames, Jeffrey Blankfort and others, provide a poignant reminder of the humanitarian vision that accompanied the party's militancy.

In conjunction with the exhibit in the Oakland History Room, Black Panther additional Black Panther Party memorabilia is on display at the West Oakland and Martin Luther King, Jr. branch libraries.

The shows, organized by The It's About Time Committee based in Sacramento, are part of the First Annual Black Panther Party History Month events scheduled in Oakland throughout the month of October. For more information of other events, click here.
