Resources
The
Oakland History Room, a reference library devoted to the history
of California, is an important center for study of the history
and current development of the East Bay.
The
room owns a variety of material about state and local history,
including books, magazines, pamphlets, newspaper clippings,
photographs, postcards, sheet music, trade catalogs, and scrapbooks.

you are interested in:
Requesting
information by mail from the Oakland History Room:
The reference librarians in the Oakland History Room can assist
you by mail with information from our unique local collections,
as listed above. You may also request assistance by e-mail by
using the library's E-answers
service and filling out the online form. We will reply within
2 working days.
Each
search is limited to about 1/2 hour of staff time and 10 photocopied
pages. Persons whose questions require extensive original research
will be referred to information brokers or independent researchers.
Copies of Oakland birth and death certificates, 1870-1904 may
be requested by mail for a donation of $2.00 each. Please direct
requests for obituaries or death notices to the Magazine
& Newspaper Room.
