Of Crime and Wine: ***************************************************************************************************************************************** Saturday, October 2, 2-4 p.m. (Oakland) – Some go down into cool and dark wine cellars to retrieve vintage bottles before dinner. Others, with darker sensibilities, re-emerge in the wee hours with original manuscripts rife with intrigue. The Oakland Public Library is pleased to present two writers who fall into the latter category for A Toast to Mystery, an afternoon of literary suspense. Nadia Gordon and Peter Lewis will read passages from their latest Wine Country thrillers at the Main Library. Nadia Gordon is the pen name of Julianne Balmain. She is the author of the Sunny McCoskey Napa Valley mysteries. The most recent installment, Lethal Vintage, was nominated for the 2010 Mystery Writers of America Mary Higgins Clark Award. It was reviewed in Wine Country Magazine: “Getting to the clever whodunit twist at the end of Lethal Vintage is just part of the fun in the delicious potboiler. Along the way, readers are treated to a virtual tour of Wine Country.” Visit the author online: http://www.juliannebalmain.com/. Peter Lewis is the author of Dead in the Dregs: A Babe Stern Mystery. Jim Harrison described the book as “...a rare and engrossing wonder dealing with the murderous grotesqueries of the wine world worn lightly in an atmosphere of homicide, sex and food.” Visit the author online: http://deadinthedregs.com/home/. Books will be available for purchase and signing. ### |
