Oakland Public Library Announces
Winter Holiday and Business Closure Schedule
Main Library to Operate on Sunday, December 28, 1 to 5 p.m.

( Oakland, CA)— Due to budget cutbacks and the upcoming holidays, the Oakland Public Library will not be open during a Mandatory Business Closure from Wednesday, December 24, 2008 through Friday, January 2, 2009. It will resume its normal operating hours on Saturday, January 3, 2009. One exception: Oakland’s Main Library, located at 125 14 th Street near Lake Merritt, will be open to the general public on Sunday, December 28, 1:00-5:00 p.m.

The special closure will affect all locations and programs of the Oakland Public Library, including the African American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO), 659 14 th Street; the Temescal Tool Lending Library, 5205 Telegraph Avenue; the Second Start Adult Literacy Program, 1801 Adeline Street; and regular bookmobile stops. Library events and exhibits previously advertised during the closure period will be cancelled.

To avoid problems with overflowing book drops, library officials urge residents to wait to return library materials until after its normal schedule resumes. Library items will have their due dates adjusted to January 9, 2009, so that they do not incur fines or result in other negative impacts during the Mandatory Business Closure period. Never leave library materials OUTSIDE a full book drop, as they could be damaged or stolen.
