Brookfield Branch Library to Close Temporarily ***************************************************************************************************************************************** (Oakland, CA)— The Oakland Public Library plans to temporarily close the Brookfield Branch for renovation work just as the Library prepares to reopen the Elmhurst Branch, which has been closed since early July, also for repair work. Elmhurst Branch will reopen on Wednesday, December 1. Brookfield Branch will close on December 1 and remain closed to the public until the beginning of February, possibly later. Work at Elmhurst Branch, 1427 88th Ave., included major changes to the front door access, restroom, and drinking fountains, all of which have been made compliant with ADA standards, making the branch more accessible for the disabled. Additionally, modifications were made to the staff office, and security screening, new signage, and security cameras were added. Painting and landscaping work were done as well. The building that currently houses Elmhurst Branch dates to 1949. Construction work at Brookfield Branch Library, 9255 Edes Ave., will include a totally new skylight renovation, exterior signage, and new control system for the HVAC. The branch has always experienced problems with heat buildup due to the current skylight configuration, and the work will address that issue. If sufficient funding is available, exterior cameras will be installed for improved security around the building. Staff from Brookfield with be redeployed to other facilities while the work is being conducted. The holiday closures in December may cause delays, so the scheduled February 1 reopening is tentative. For information, call the Library at 510-238-3271 or visit the Library’s website: www.oaklandlibrary.org. The Oakland Public Library is a department of the City of Oakland. ### |
