Fictional History of the U.S. Panel Discussion with Authors

(Oakland, CA)— Authors Daniel Alarcón, Adam Mansbach, and T Cooper will speak about their new anthology, A Fictional History of the United States with Huge Chunks Missing (Akashic Books; 2006) in a panel discussion set for Saturday, September 16, 2pm, at Oakland Public Library’s Main Library, located at 125 14th Street in Oakland.

The original stories in this collection provide fictional counter-narratives to history as we know it, offering a chance for some of America’s best writers to creatively revise and critically reinvent the stories of our past. The anthology was edited by writers Adam Mansbach and T Cooper. Mansbach is the author of the novels Angry Black White Boy and the forthcoming The End of the Jews and lives in Berkeley. T Cooper lives in New York City and is the author of the novels Lipshitz Six, and Two Angry Blondes and Some of the Parts. Daniel Alarcón, a story contributor, is currently a Distinguished Visiting Writer at Mills College in Oakland. He spoke in April at the Library at the release of his first book, War by Candlelight, which was a finalist for the 2006 PEN/Hemingway Foundation Award.
