Chinese Now Available on
Oakland Public Library's Web Site
(Oakland, CA)—Visitors to the Oakland Public Library’s Web site, www.oaklandlibrary.org, will notice a new feature: Web pages in Chinese that offer information about services and collections for the Library’s Chinese-reading community. The new Web page can be accessed through the Library’s home page or as an option starting from the Asian Branch Library page. Once there, the visitor will find information about both general library services and collections available in Chinese. The Asian Branch page can also be viewed in Chinese and users can even download a library registration form in Chinese from the Web site.
“This new Chinese-language service is our attempt to complement similar Spanish language pages on our Web site,” according to Kathleen Hirooka, Community Relations Coordinator. “We have a large Chinese community that heavily uses our Asian Branch, and we want to make sure that those with limited English skills can still find what they need on our Web site.”
The Oakland Public Library’s Asian Branch is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary and is the busiest branch in the system with materials in eight Asian languages, as well as in English. Chinese language speakers who would like more information about the Oakland Public Library or the Web site should call (510) 238-3400.
