End of Summer Slam Jam for Teens
Features Youth Speaks and BUMP Records

****************************************************

(Oakland, CA )— Teens are invited to an End of Summer Slam Jam with poetry slams by members of Youth Speaks and music performed by BUMP Records. A Q & A session at the end of the event will give teens a chance to learn about the performers and the programs they participate in. Come learn about the great opportunities to get involved offered by these nonprofits. Refreshments will be provided. Join us on Wednesday, August 22, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm, at the West Auditorium of Oakland Public Library’s Main Library, 125-14th Street.

BUMP Records is part of BAVC (Bay Area Video Coalition), the nation’s most advanced nonprofit media technology access and training center. BAVC has connected underserved populations with new opportunities in media technology since 1976. BAVC actively supports a new generation of diverse media makers through YouthLink, a comprehensive after-school program in Web design and video production. With BAVC’s merge with Youth Sounds in 2006, their combined audio, video, and Web programs now represent the most comprehensive and entrepreneurial youth media and technology-training programs in the country.

Youth Speaks is the nation's leading nonprofit presenter of spoken word performance, education, and youth development programs. Since 1996, Youth Speaks has helped young people pick up the pen and take hold of the microphone in the Bay Area and beyond, as creators of social, artistic, educational and political change. The group works to create opportunities for youth to develop and publicly present their voices in a variety of media, including live performances and theater, videos, books, and CDs.
