Oakland Public Library to be Open Friday, July 2 and Holidays and Budget Cuts Behind 3-Day Hiatus ***************************************************************************************************************************************** ( Oakland, CA)—The Oakland Public Library has announced that unlike the rest of the City of Oakland that will be closed from Friday, July 2 – Monday, July 5, the Library will be open during its regular hours on Friday, July 2, 12 Noon to 5:30 p.m. in order to serve our patrons looking for that last minute book or DVD for the long holiday weekend. All branch libraries and Main Library will be open to the public on Friday, July 2 and closed for the July 4 weekend, from Saturday, July 3 to Monday, July 5. The closure includes a day off due to the City of Oakland’s budget shortfall, and two days for the July 4 holiday. As the holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is taken as holiday time for City and Library staff.
