Book A Librarian Provides
One-on-One Extended Reference Help

(Oakland, CA)— Do you have a question you would like to discuss with a librarian? Do you need personalized help in using a computer or searching the Internet? In a world where customer service can be speaking to someone overseas or waiting in long lines, the Oakland Public Library is reversing the trend by launching a new, personalized service called “Book a Librarian.”

Now you can reserve a free, 30-minute one-on-one reference or training session with a professional librarian at Oakland’s Main Library, 125 14th Street. This free service is best used for complicated reference questions that require time beyond the usual walk-in reference help, or for more in-depth instruction on how to use the library’s catalog, reference databases, and the Internet.

Let our librarians, many with expertise in such subjects as music, health, business, government information, etc. - and trained in navigating the Internet – help you find the right answers to your questions. To make an appointment, call (510) 238-3138 during open hours for available times. Appointments are limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis. A librarian will first discuss your needs over the phone so that we can better prepare to assist you with your question.

The Main Library’s hours are Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.; Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12:00-8:00 p.m.; Fridays 12:00-5:30 p.m.; and Sundays 1:00-5:00 p.m.

This is another free service being provided by your Oakland Public Library.
