Farmworker's Daughter Author
To Give Bilingual Book Talk
(Oakland, CA) Author Rose Castillo Guilbault will read from and discuss her powerful memoir, Farmworker's Daughter: Growing Up Mexican in America, at a free book talk at 6:30 pm, Tuesday, May 2 at Oakland Public Library's César Chávez Branch, located at 3301 E. 12th Street, Suite 271. The talk will be presented in both English and Spanish. Books, including the newly released paperback of Farmworker's Daughter, will be available for sale and signing at this all-ages event. This event is cosponsored by César Chávez Branch and Bibliotecas Para la Gente.
A San Francisco Chronicle Best Book of 2005, Farmworker's Daughter (Heyday Books, 2005) tells the timely story of a Mexican immigrant growing up in a small farming community in the U.S. This is the first book written by Rose Castillo Guilbault, who was born in Sonora, Mexico, and grew up in the Salinas Valley of California. She has been a columnist for Pacific News Service and the San Francisco Chronicle, and was editorial director for KGO-TV (ABC San Francisco). She also created the television series Profiles of Excellence. Currently, Guilbault is vice president of corporate affairs at AAA of Northern California, Nevada, and Utah, and serves as chairwoman of the Board of Governors for the Commonwealth Club of California.
