Teenzone Extreme Makeover Begins
************************************************************************************************************************
Oakland , CA. -- The Oakland Main Library’s TeenZone, 125 14th Street-2nd Floor, is temporarily relocating to the West Auditorium during the construction phase of a $275,000 remodeling project that will result in a Teen Computer Lab, private group study rooms, quiet reading areas, a video section for programming and instruction, increased shelf space for more materials in all formats, and more display space to showcase teen art. In order to make this move, the TeenZone will close beginning Thursday, April 19, 2007, and will reopen in its temporary location on the ground floor of the Main Library on Tuesday, April 24, 2007. Teen services, including regular programming (e.g. Anime viewing, TeenZone Advisory Board, etc.) will continue to operate while the TeenZone is in the West Auditorium.
Harding Construction has been hired as the contractor for the TeenZone makeover, along with YHLA Architects, who are working with City of Oakland Project Manager Calvin C. Hao and Oakland Public Library staff. Anticipated date of completion is currently September 2007.
For more information, please contact Tracey Firestone, Teen Services Manager, at 510-238-3850 or Lyn Taylor, TeenZone Manager, at 510-238-7332. The Oakland Public Library is a department of the City of Oakland.
