African American Museum And Library
Invites Public To View New Master Plan

***************************************************************************

(Oakland, CA) -- The African American Museum and Library at Oakland (AAMLO), a division of the Oakland Public Library, announces a series of public meetings to introduce the master plan for the renovation of its second floor museum gallery. This project is funded by a $1,000,000 State of California Department of Parks and Recreation grant issued under the 2002 Resources Bond Act, Historical and Cultural Resources Preservation, Opportunity Grant Program.

According to Rick Moss, Chief Curator at AAMLO, the meetings will provide a wonderful opportunity to introduce the design team and the exhibition plan. “We hope to capture the public’s imagination, get them excited about the project which focuses on the dynamic history of Oakland’s African American community, and win their trust and support.”

Meetings are scheduled for Friday, March 2, 10am-Noon; Wednesday, March 14, 1pm-3pm; and Saturday, March 24, 2pm-4pm at the African American Museum and Library at Oakland, 659 14th Street, Oakland. For more information, please call (510) 637-0200.

AAMLO is dedicated to the preservation, inter pretation, and sharing of materials focusing on the experience of African Americans in Northern California. It consists of a museum, archives and reference library. For more information about its services and collections, visit the Oakland Public Library’s Web site at www.oaklandlibrary.org/AAMLO/.

Please refrain from wearing heavily scented products. To request sign inter pretation or other accommodation, please call the number above or (510) 834-7446 (TTY) at least five working days prior to the event. The Oakland Public Library is a department of the City of Oakland.
