Black History Month Events and Programs
at the African American Museum and Library

(Oakland, CA) The African American Museum and Library (AAMLO) announces their Black History Month program schedule for 2006, which includes a return of the Season Sistahs, a new exhibit on Oakland artist Arnold White, and much more. AAMLO, located at 659-14th Street in downtown Oakland, is a division of the Oakland Public Library. These programs are free to the public.

Saturday, February 11
2:00 - 4:00 pm Back by popular demand… Season Sistahs Book Signing
Life's Spices From Seasoned Sistahs is a new and exciting anthology of real stories and poetry written by mature women of color from all walks of life.
6:00 - 8:00 pm Celebrating Community: Henry Delton Williams Gospel Choir
Experience the electrifying sounds of this dynamic gospel group.

  Oakland's Arnold White: A Retrospective Exhibition
Local artist Arnold White is celebrated in a retrospective of some of his favorite creations reflecting the sights and sounds of his beloved Oakland. White's abstract expressionism explodes with all of the vibrant colors of the rainbow and infuses his work with energy and promise.

A community discussion sponsored by the National Association of SEADOGS (Northern California Chapter), an international organization dedicated to humanitarian and charitable endeavours that started in Nigeria. Master of Ceremonies: Osagie Enabulele.

1:00 - 5:00 pm Oaktown Youth Musical Showcase
Khalil Shaheed presents promising young jazz musicians from throughout the Bay Area - an unforgettable musical experience!

Join us for his comic monologue A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Oakland and book signing. Sponsored by the Oakland Post Newspaper Group and the University of Poetry. Hosted by the African American Museum and Library.
