UC Doctor to Speak on Ancient Ayurvedic Medicine

(Oakland, CA) Dr. Sudha Prathikanti of UC San Francisco will speak to the public about Ayurvedic Medicine, an ancient form of healing from India that uses nutrition, herbs, aroma therapy and self awareness to promote health. She will also show slides of her recent visit to an Ayurvedic hospital in India. See Dr. Prathikant’s free talk on Friday, February 17 from 3 to 5 pm at Oakland Public Library’s Main Library, located at 125-14th Street. This is a program of the One City One Book Mistress of Spices initiative that is highlighting many aspects of East Indian culture in the East Bay.

Dr. Prathikanti is Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF and Director of Behavioral Medicine, Department of Primary Care Medicine, UCSF/SFGH. She is also an associate of the Osher Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Prathikanti graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed a psychiatric residency and fellowship at UCSF. In her extensive travels in India and South Asia, she has developed her knowledge of the healing paradigms of Ayurveda, yoga, and Jungian symbology.
