Local Sight-Seeing is Topic of Sept. 22 Talk at Oakland Public Library

*****************************************************************************************************************************************

What: Stay-cation Nation
When: Wednesday September 22, 6:00 PM
Where: Main Library, 125 14 th Street

( Oakland, CA)—In a talk at the Main Library in downtown Oakland, Annalee Allen, Oakland Tours Program's walking tour guide, will discuss the benefits of taking a "stay-cation." The concept is to enjoy your vacation time without the expense of plane tickets and hotels. All you need is curiosity about our own diverse, dynamic, and endlessly surprising City of Oakland. Ms. Allen will get you started on your way to exploring various free and cheap sights around town, including art galleries, regional parks, museums, historic houses, and walking tours.

Ms. Allen is a writer and historian and an established authority on places of interest in the city of Oakland. She is a longtime Oakland Tribune landmark columnist and the author of Selections from the Oakland Tribune Archives, part of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America series. As Oakland Tours program coordinator, she offers free 90-minute tours through downtown Oakland.

Stay-cation Nation is the first part of the Oakland Public Library’s Fall Travel Series, which will continue on Wednesday, September 29, 6 p.m., with Paris, Solo. Dorothy Lazard, the Oakland Public Library’s travel librarian, will reprise her popular program, in which she presents ideas for getting the most out of a solo visit to Paris, whether you are passing through or making and extended stay. Further programming will be announced soon.

For information, call Dorothy Lazard at 510-238-3222, or visit the Oakland Public Library online, at http://www.oaklandlibrary.org. The Oakland Public Library is a department of the City of Oakland.
