The library has been experiencing more than usual difficulty in providing this service. Most people have been able to download audiobooks successfully, but we have received complaints about two particular problems:

  • Downloadable audiobooks from NetLibrary are not compatible with iPods or Macintosh computers. This decision was made by Apple Computer, Inc., the manufacturer of iPods and Macintosh computers. Downloadable audiobooks from NetLibrary can be used on a variety of mp3 players available from other manufacturers. Click here for information on compatible mp3 players: http://www.playsforsure.com/findportabledevices.aspx
  • Some people have reported that when they try to use NetLibrary or the NetLibrary Audiobook Center, they don’t find any link to “Create a Free Account.” When the NetLibrary or NetLibrary Audiobook Center pages have loaded correctly, the link to “Create a Free Account” is in the upper right corner of the screen. There are also logos for Califa and OPL on the right hand side.

IF YOU EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM, WE CAN HELP! If you are an Oakland Public Library card-holder, please send us an email at oplweb@oaklandlibrary.org with “NetLibrary account request” in the subject line, and provide us with the following information:

    • The username and (temporary) password--minimum 6 characters--you want to use for your NetLibrary account.
    • Your First and Last Name.
    • Your email address.
    • Your OPL card number
    • (optional) Your phone number

We will set up an account for you on our staff computers, and then you will be able to use the new account on your home computer. We will inform you by email when we’ve set up the account. If you provide a phone number, we’ll call you if we need more information to set up the account.

After we’ve set up your NetLibrary account, login to your account and go to “Edit My Account” and change the password and security information question, so only you will have access to your account.

THANK YOU!

Always connect to NetLibrary through the Oakland Public Library website links, NOT through Bookmarks or Favorites you've saved in your browser. It should not normally be necessary to change settings on your PC to connect to NetLibrary, however, here are some other steps you can take that may improve your chances for connecting:

    • Delete cookies
    • Delete temporary internet files
    • Delete history
    • Disable your pop-up blocker for the NetLibrary site
    • Configure your firewall to permit www.netlibrary.com
    • Re-start your computer.
