Collections

The collection includes 65,000 volumes, including reference and circulating titles of general interest to all ages. Highlights include a Career section which has test preparation for the high school equivalency exam; basic study skills guides; African American studies; ESL (English as a Second Language); and Spanish language materials. The branch subscribes to 75 periodicals and three newspapers: the San Francisco Chronicle, The Oakland Tribune and La Opinion. The audiovisual collection includes CD's, DVD's, videotapes, and books-on-tape.

Computers

  • The Eastmont Branch has 13 PCS for public use with Internet access and Microsoft Office. Two are for children, five are for young adults, four are for adults, one has Adaptive Technology, and one is for Express use (15 minutes only). Sign-up is on a first come, first serve basis. Please call the branch for more information.
  • Adaptive technology is available on one PC, including screen readers and enlargers for those who are blind, have low vision or learning disabilities. Eastmont now has "Inspiration" software for teens who are disabled. Call the branch at (510) 615-5726 for more information or to schedule a training.

Branch History

The Eastmont Branch opened on the corner of Parker and MacArthur Blvd. in 1945. In 1983, the Baymont and Eastmont branches were consolidated in a 500-square foot kiosk in the Eastmont Mall. With a growing clientele, a full service, 9500 Square foot branch opened in The Eastmont Town Center on October 5, 1998.

Directions & Public Transit Information


By Car:

  • From Hwy 13 West: Take Edwards Street exit; turn right at end of exit ramp. Travel to Bancroft St, and turn right. Eastmont Town Center is on your left, and the library is on the upper floor.
  • From 580 East or West: Take Seminary Blvd exit. Turn down the hill, travel a few blocks, and turn left on Bancroft. After a few blocks Eastman Center will be on your right. The library is on the upper floor.
  • From 880 North: Take Hegenberger exit turn right. Continue to the Eastmont Town Center, enter by McDonald Restaurant entry and park.
  • From 880 South: Exit on Hegenberger Road stay on the left lanes and go overpass. Continue on Hegenberger to the Eastmont Town Center. Enter by McDonald Restaurant entryway. The library is located inside the Mall.

By Bus:

  • 40, 40L, 840 and 50 to Eastmont Transit Village (at Eastmont Town Center)
  • 57 from Emeryville to Eastmont Transit Village (at Eastmont Town Center)
  • NL from San Francisco to Eastmont Transit Village (at Eastmont Town Center)

By BART:

  • 50 from Bart to Eastmont Transit Village
