Brookfield Branch has approximately 22,000 books, compact disks, videos, DVDs, audio books, audiocassettes, magazines and newspapers for all ages. Circulating materials are largely of popular interest, with a strong emphasis on practical how-to topics and fiction. There is a small reference collection with current materials. Special-Interest Collections include a Black History and Black Fiction Collection (2,400 volumes), Spanish Language materials (approximately 1,700 volumes serving both adult and children). Brookfield also offers a popular children's section and a growing teen collection.

Branch History
Brookfield Village was a new housing development built during World War II for the war industries workers who poured into the East Bay. The first Brookfield Village Branch Library was established in 1957 as a kiosk within the Brookfield Village recreation center. The branch has since occupied four different neighborhood sites before moving in 1992 to its present location in the East Oakland Multipurpose Senior Center and Library, at 9255 Edes Avenue.
From 580 South: Exit Golf Links Road/98th Ave. West on 98th Ave. to the bottom of the hill. Go under the BART tracks then over railroad tracks. Right on Edes Ave. Left into the parking lot of the East Oakland Community Center, 9255 Edes Ave. The library is inside the Community Center on the northwest corner of Edes and Jones across the street from a FEDEX distribution center.
From 880 South: Exit Hegenberger Road/Oakland Airport. East on Hegenberger. Right at second stoplight onto Edes Ave. Right into the parking lot of the East Oakland Community Center, 9255 Edes Ave. The library is inside the Community Center on the northwest corner of Edes and Jones across the street from a FEDEX distribution center.
