Branch History

Brookfield Village was a new housing development built during World War II for the war industries workers who poured into the East Bay. The first Brookfield Village Branch Library was established in 1957 as a kiosk within the Brookfield Village recreation center. The branch has since occupied four different neighborhood sites before moving in 1992 to its present location in the East Oakland Multipurpose Senior Center and Library, at 9255 Edes Avenue.
