Preschool Storytime Wednesday, 10:30am (ages 3 - 5)
Volunteer @ King King welcomes youth volunteers ages 8 and above on Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. A parental or guardian permission slip is required. Please call the branch at 615-5728 for further information.

Collections

The collection has approximately 30,000 volumes that are comprised of children, teen and adult books. The collection contains materials in Spanish and Vietnamese languages. The library also has a growing collection of compact discs, videos, and DVD's. A developing special collection on Martin Luther King Jr. features books, videos, audiotapes, and DVDs. The branch also houses a Black History Collection, which contains adult fiction, non-fiction and biographies written by or about people of African descent.

Computers

  • Five (5) computers with Internet access are available for public use. Please phone the branch at (510) 615-5728 for more information.
  • Kurzweil 3000 is a scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities, reading difficulties, or low vision. Call the branch at (510) 615-5728 for more information or to schedule a training.

Branch History

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library was established as a station in 1916 and subsequently designated as the Lockwood Branch in 1929. It was replaced in 1970 by a new facility, named in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Directions & Public Transit Information


By Car:

  • From 580 East: Take Edwards Ave. exit; turn right onto 73rd. Continue on 73rd to International Ave. Turn right onto International Blvd. Library is on the left at the corner of International Blvd. and 69th Ave.
  • From 880 South: Take Hegenberger exit. Continue on Hegenberger to International Blvd. Turn left onto International Blvd. Library is on the left at the corner of International Blvd. 69th Ave.

By Bus:

  • 82 bus stops right in front of the King Branch Library.

By BART:

  • Coliseum Station. Walk through underpass. Make a right onto 69th Ave. Continue on 69th to the King Branch. The library is on the corner of 69th and International.
