Firestorm in Oakland Hills, 1991

Scarcely two years later, on October 21, 1991, a firestorm swept out of the Oakland Hills to become the most destructive urban conflagration in U. S. history according to the Insurance Information Institute. That disaster killed 25 people, destroyed 2,103 structures and caused an estimated $1.7 billion in damage.
