Black Panther Party
Black Panther Party, 1968

The Bay Area stood at the epicenter of the storms of dissent that swept the world during the tumultuous 1960s. Oakland contributed to the tumult with the Black Panther Party, founded at Merritt College by Bobby Seale, Huey P. Newton and others in 1966, with its outspoken cries for justice, equal opportunity and an end to the Vietnam War.
